the 19 form routine is by Chen Xiaowang; the 18 form routine is by Chen Zhenglei.

There is also the 13 forms (executed in Old Frame, New Frame, or Small Frame) by Zhu Tiancai. And to expand, the 42 forms of Wang Xian. Then there is the Standardized 36 forms, the Competition 56 Forms, the Application 32 and 32 Cannon Fist by Master Peter Wu. The number of shorter modern forms developed by masters and grandmasters are numerous.

If I'm short on time, I'd probably do the CXW 38 posture form for the variety it has. Though sometimes I just work on the first section of laojia over and over and that's good too.

i never learnt 18-19 before and never like the idea of shortened routines. i appreciate the reason they are created for the busy urban ppl but i guess usually these ppl have no time to do a 18 stroke set too :p

hanxiongbabei, if you have Lao Jia Yi Lu back ground, 18 stroke is easy to learn and if you already have Xin Jia background 19 steps can be pick up more easily, but for beginner then I would suggest, learn Lao Jia Yi Lu, 73 stroke
