Taiji shoes

18 December 2008 1,733 views 12 Comments
I have been wearing either the Feiyue or Warrior brand shoes for the past 6-7 years since I start doing taijiquan. The most common shoe model is a canvas shoe with a hard rubber sole.  On the canvas shoe, there is usually a few strips of either white, red or blue color. The amount of padding is minimum compared to running track shoes. The canvas cover and lack or padding make it easier for  us to do some stances compared to a running or x-training shoes.

In the report, it mentioned that it cost S$97 to buy a pair of French distributed Feiyue! I am not sure what the difference of France and china produced pair. A made in china pair will cost about $15 to $18 in Singapore. You may buy them at shops selling wushu stuff. I usually buy them at
  1. 中联书局 Bras Basah Complex #02-03
  2. Toh Chee Huat Ivory Co (yeah they also sell wushu stuff :) )
    133 New Bridge Road #02-73
    Chinatown Point, Podium B
    Singapore 059413
Okie let us be cool :p

I like Keens. I like their earlier sole: it’s thinner than most, flat enough, and it has a wide toe-bed. It’s perfect for internal arts. I use them in summer and in the wintery snows even though they are worn from bagua mud-stepping on pavement.

I was told recently that Orlando Bloom was spotted in a pair of Feiyue and that resulted to the sudden surge in price and popularity outside china. The friend who told me asked me where he could get a pair and i told him this shoe is very common among taiji/wushu players.

How do they hold in psuhing hands?
I could finish the trad. Chinese gongfu shoes in less than a month. Now I use Kwon leather shoes, priced like in France, but really good standing.

    Silk, check out http://www.feiyue-shoes.com/pages_uk/shop.php
A pair is going for 50 Euro! But the Er Dang Jia series look good.

Bai Yiming, thanks for posting. Which part of trad. Chinese gongfu shoes do you wear out? if it is the soles then these feiyue style shoes are good. There are also china made leather shoes that maybe in around US$20-30

I’ve found a shop selling them online in Germany for €11, about $15 (budoten.com).

$15 is not too bad for a china made shoes. Thanks for sharing.

    I’ve used this sole: Austin.
The next one I may try is Market St.
The black leather Feiyue Los look fine.

I’m yet to try Feiyue shoes – I’ve always used Converse for my Taiji, although that’s because I tend to wear them 99% of the time anyway! I wonder whether I’d find the Feiyue more comfortable?

feiyue are afforadable provided you get the china version and not the french version. They are comfortable for taiji and general walking.

Thanks for visiting n nice site you have.
